UFC just announced that Khabib Nurmagomedov will face Al Iaquinta tomorrow in the main event at UFC 223 for the UFC Lightweight title!
Originally the main event was booked between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. Tony Ferguson got injured on April 1st and Max Holloway stepped in and took the fight on six days notice. Max Holloway knew that he had a tough weight cut ahead of him to make the 155 pounds limit. Today Doctors ruled Max Holloway out because of the rough weight cut. Anthony Pettis was supposed to fight Michael Chiesa on the fight card but Chiesa got hurt in the Conor McGregor´s chaos after the UFC 223 media day. Pettis was then left without a fight at the card. UFC contacted him but his payment demands to take the fight were too high so UFC offered Al Iaquinta the title fight and now that fight is the official main event for the UFC 223 event.
We need to wait and see if Paul Felder (originally booked to fight Al Iaquinta at the event) will be paired up with Antony Pettis.
